GREAT RECONSTRUCTION The arrangement of the Zadar waterfront is one of the most important maritime projects in Croatia

Relocation of the ship line

-The final dimensions of the pier will be 80x15 meters, which will enable the berthing of vessels. The project also envisages the reconstruction of the coastal hinterland of Liburnian Coast, 600 meters long and five meters wide. The reconstruction of the waterfront can be divided in two parts: the reconstruction of the quay wall and pier, with the first phase of works comprising the construction of the new foundation and wall structures of the Coast of King Petar Krešimir IV. The second phase, on the other hand, envisages the construction of the new pier foundation and wall structures, during which the pier will be elongated in relation to the current condition, explains Bilaver.

Namely, the reconstruction and the extension of the Coast of King Petar Krešimir IV will at the same time create conditions for the relocation of the fast ship line 409 Zadar – Preko, as the busiest state ship line, from the Liburnian Coast to the pier on the Coast of King Petar Krešimir IV, points out the State Secretary, explaining the importance of this project for the overall maritime infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia.

Works in three phases

-The project of Zadar waterfront arrangement is one of the most important maritime projects of port infrastructure construction, but also maritime infrastructure in Croatia in general. I am especially proud of this project for which a grant agreement was signed in July and which defines the share of as much as 85 percent from the European Commission funds, that is, from the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion and 15 percent from the national funds. The project includes the reconstruction of the entire area from the bridge in Jazine to the University building and will be carried out in three phases, says Bilaver, explaining also their first task in the realisation of this great work.

The tender is carried out by the Port of Zadar Authority

-The greatest focus now is on the Port of Zadar Authority, which needs to carry out public tendering procedures for project management, supervision and, most importantly, the works themselves. The Ministry expects this process to be performed as soon as possible so that the Zadar waterfront reconstruction can finally start because, according to some forecasts, the first phase should be completed almost by the beginning of the next tourist season, and the works on remaining two phases would continue after the fall, states Bilaver, pointing out that this project will mean a lot for the residents of Zadar and Zadar County.

-It will bring them safety of all activities that were performed on it. The waterfront foundations have been eroded by the effects of the tides, primarily of the “Jugo” (the SE wind) and mistral, due to which we already had few small interventions by the City and now came the time for a complete reconstruction. It comes, however, with one big curiosity, and that is the return of the old look it had hundreds of years ago, Bilaver points out in the end.

Project completion date 31 December 2023

- The Decisions on the selection of tenderers for the services of Project Management and Promotion and Visibility were taken, but the contracts haven’t been signed yet. Tender documents for construction works and construction supervision are in the final stage of preparation and its publication is expected. Project completion date is 31 December 2023, Bilaver announces.
